Dia de los Muertos by CanisAlbus Dia de los Muertos by CanisAlbus
Halloween is coming soon. I thought to make something which can be related to it, and suddenly I remembered that there's also a Mexican feast day called Día de los Muertos. I have been interested of Mesoamerican culture for years, and in my opinion this mexican ritual is much more enigmatic than regular, American Halloween.

This is done mostly using Promarkers, but I edited it with GIMP afterwards. I really like the way it turned out, expecially colours and flowers.

Wickedly delicious!

It's as if you hijacked Little Red Riding Hood's nightmares, and brought them to life.
Mr. Crazy Dog Creature was restrained with chains...but he yanked them so hard they broke.

He lets out a bizarre barking barrage, as he makes his way to his next victim.
He needs to round out his collection of skulls...will you be next?

Very nice, I love how the character looks like a jackal (considered in some cultures such as the Egyptian as a guide through death) and a little like the Techichi or the Xoloiztcuintle (two of the possible ancestors of the chihuahua that were considered by the Mesoamericans as guides through death). Did you do that on purpose?

Thank you! Well, I designed him to look like Pharaoh hound, with some Xoloiztcuintle features. He's my own charachter named Muertos and I created him about an year ago. White skeleton markings are tattooed to his black skin.
And when I was planning this drawing he popped to my head because of his name.

Thank you! Yes, I was a bit lost how to describe that holiday, and now I think that "ritual" is a better word to it.

We finnish people are having our own tradition, which is called "Pyhäinmiestenpäivä", or in english "All Hallows' Day". On that day we usually visit our relatives graves in cemetery.

I am really flattered that you liked it, thanks for your comment!
